Steven L. Haskins

Principal and founder. BSEE, MBA, U.S. Army National Guard veteran. Currently Director of Capital Expenditures at Virginia Transformer Corporation, advising independently through Haskins Capital LLC. Twenty-plus years of capital project leadership on the owner's side — at Nidec, Bunge North America, and Virginia Transformer — including procurement lead on a $1 billion greenfield program. Work spans greenfield, brownfield and expansion projects, with capital equipment sourced in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Germany, China and India.

Why this practice exists

The reviews that matter happen before the money moves.

Across twenty years of capital programs — across six countries — the same pattern repeated. The commercial terms that decided whether a project lost money were settled early, in a purchase order or a payment schedule nobody read closely, and the consequences arrived months later as a change order, a stalled delivery, or a draw funded against work that was not in place.

Haskins Capital exists to put that review where it belongs: before signature, before approval, before the check clears. For owners, that protects the budget. For lenders, it protects the collateral.
